This is why we have adapted the personal protective equipment (or PPE) in accordance with the current public health crisis.
Personal Protective Equipment
The United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has set up a variety of parameters in order to ensure the greatest possible protection for employees in the workplace. This includes providing the necessary personal protective equipment so that both employers and employees can help in establishing and maintaining a safe work environment. Their guidelines state that employers must be responsible for:
- Performing a hazard assessment to determine and control potential health and safety hazards;
- Identifying and providing the necessary personal protective equipment for employees;
- Training employees in the use and care of personal protective equipment;
- Maintaining, periodically reviewing, updating, evaluating, and replacing worn-out or damaged personal protective equipment.
Meanwhile, employees have the responsibility to:
- Properly wear the personal protective equipment;
- Attend the training sessions about the personal protective equipment;
- Care for, clean, and maintain their protection equipment;
- Inform a supervisor regarding the need to replace any personal protective equipment.
PPE During COVID-19
These are the regular guidelines under which we operate under normal circumstances. The COVID-19 pandemic is no different. The virus has become another health hazard that every workplace should account for, which means that providing the necessary personal protective equipment to prevent contagion has become a priority. The use of face masks and gloves, the implementation of potential symptom assessment, and the enforcement of physical distancing guidelines are all part of the new measures that must be taken in order to maintain a safe work environment during this crisis.
